Week of January 19, 2009

I hope you all had a nice break. At the very least, the weather was great. Remember to bring your Norton Anthologies (parts I & II--the orange book) this week.

Tuesday / Wednesday

Vocabulary test. Turn in. Remember to look for clues within the sentences. In most of my sentences, you will find synonyms. When you have finished the test, you will write out and sign the pledge and turn it in. Because students finish at different rates, those that turn the tests in early should find something else to study--anything but vocabulary. You may not take out your vocabulary books until all tests have been handed in to the teacher.

Also, no student may use an iPod (or any electronic device) during any test. And you must ask permission to use an iPod (or any electronic device) at any time, unless I announce that it is okay for all students.

Since most of my vocabulary tests end before the end of the period, we will try to get through Canto IV of "Inferno." If not, we will do so, along with Cantos V (and maybe VI) on Thursday/Friday.

I have specifically designed the vocabulary test to also serve as a review for the exam. Bring questions about the exam the next time you come to class. Chances are, if you have a question, others do too, so you will be helping all of us.

Thursday / Friday

Depending upon how things go on Tuesday/Wednesday, we will do more of "Inferno," along with some review for the exam. Be prepared with questions.

Homework for the weekend:

I will probably assign one canto from "Inferno" and recommend that you prepare questions for the exam. We will have to see how far we get this week, however.
