Week of March 1, 2010

Can you believe it? March?

Monday/Tuesday

Meet in room 234. Then we will go to the computer lab. I expect at least one completed rough draft of a canto by the end of the period. It will be saved in the shared file or printed out (depending upon computer lab accommodations).

Read cantos 28-31 for homework.

Wednesday/Thursday

Possible reading quiz on cantos 26-31. Go over. Then we will go to the computer lab. You should finish a second canto (a first draft, at least).

Homework: Vocabulary Chapter 12.

Friday:

Check vocabulary homework. Go over. Work quietly on Infernos.

A few notes:

  • When researching, I also expect you to take notes. I don't consider it research if you just put in a URL address. I expect to see that you have learned something.
  • People are in the Inferno for doing wrong. Do not create a hierarchy of rewards.
  • The guide needs to be relatively famous, famous enough that I could find information on him/her.
  • Do not create stock characters that resemble anyone from this school--no students, teachers, staff, or administration.
  • Do not even think about modeling a stock character after the teacher who will grade this huge project. Besides, doing so shows a great lack of common sense.
  • Each day that we have to write during class time needs to be saved under that date--from now on.
  • Each student's Inferno will have a header and page numbers. If you need help doing this, ask me or a tech-savvy person to help.
  • Dialog: The following is wrong: "Let's go to the movies." He said.
  • Dialog: The following is correct: "Let's got to the movies," he said.
  • Dialog: The following is correct: "Let's go to the movies!" he said. (You should not replace "said" with "exclaimed" if you are already using an exclamation point. It is redundant.
  • Dialog: The following is correct: "Would you like to go to the movies," she asked.
  • Dialog: The following is correct: "Would you like to go to the movies?" she said.
  • Dialog: The following is correct: "Would you like to go to the movies?" she asked.
  • When editing, get rid of the following words: "stated," "questioned," "queried."
  • As you are saving your various drafts (and printing them out), keep the oldest material on the bottom and the newest on top.
  • Any questions?
Homework: Finish reading Dante's Inferno (Cantos 32-34). Continue working on your contemporary Infernos.
