Welcome back! Hello Sophomores. I loved my sophomores last year and have heard great things about you. This is where you find me. Use my blog not only for assignments but I do pretty intensive study guides that you might find useful. If you read the blog, you won't have to try to figure out what I think is important--it will tell you. Of course, I expect you to be able to think for yourselves, but to do that you must first become a good observer. That might be my greatest gift as a teacher--to teach you how to see.
Tuesday/Wednesday
This plan is subject to change due to a technology issues. At the very least, I would like to assign books, get you to fill out cards the old-fashioned way but also via technology. I do want you to fill out the information posted on the right side of the blog. With any luck, we will get brief access to a computer lab. I would also like to take you on a walk--to show you where we exit for the fire drill.
You will receive your syllabus which you are to sign and have one of your parents sign (and return). I have given you an extra sheet so that you can keep a hard copy of the syllabus.
You will also turn in your summer assignments. We may take some time to share.
Possible seminar on Fountain and Tomb. If we run out of time, this will be moved to Thursday/Friday.
Homework: Because of its relevance to Fountain and Tomb, which, in its own way is a story of the Fall, or the loss of innocence, you will read pp.48-50 (background information on The Creation/Fall stories and the Story of Joseph). Then read pp. 52-556--all the way through "The First Murder."
Thursday/Friday
Turn in signature (noting that you and your parent(s) have read and understood the terms of the syllabus). You will receive 100 points homework credit just for doing this.
I have a presentation on Fahrenheit 451. We will see if technology is kind to us.
Possible further discussion on Fountain and Tomb, combined with elements of the King James version of the Creation/Fall/Murder stories.
Homework:
We will probably take a look at the Koran's "Story of Joseph" (874-880). Read it over the weekend.
